Charleston, W.Va-  Just before heading into his senior season, Heritage High School running back Alec Sinkfield verbally committed to the Mountaineers for the 2017 recruiting class. The Delray, Florida native had one offer from Florida Atlantic before the Mountaineers offered the explosive athlete, which sparked other power five schools around the country to offer Sinkfield a scholarship.

Illinois, Kentucky, Pitt, North Carolina and Syracuse all came into play for Sinkfield and when I asked him if his head was spinning right now, Sinkfield had this to say: “At a point it was crazy. I narrowed it down to West Virginia, I am going to take a couple of other visits for the summer, but it’s going to be hard to change my mind.”  Running backs coach JaJuan Sieder did what he does best, recruit the state of Florida and developed a wonderful relationship with Sinkfield. “The relationship I have with Coach Sieder is unbreakable, and he’s a remarkable guy,” Sinkfield said.

Still a long way to go before Sinkfield has a chance to play for the Mountaineers, he enters his senior season with still plenty of unfinished business. Suffering a loss in the 2015 state title game was a let down for Sinkfield and his Heritage High teammates but Sinkfield looks to get back and take care of business. “The biggest goal is to get back there and show that we can beat this team. They beat us twice and we’re looking for revenge,” Sinkfield said.

It was a pleasure to talk to this young man and just speaking with him in the short interview on the show, he shows tremendous honesty, grit, and character. The perfect combo for a true Mountaineer and looking forward to seeing this young man play in Morgantown. Listen to the entire interview below and as always you can listen to The Brandon Lowe Show every weekday evening at 5 on AM 950 WBES in Charleston.
