MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 3, 2021) – The West Virginia University wrestling team checks in at No. 20 in this week’s dual meet rankings by Intermat for the first time this season.
West Virginia is one of eight Big 12 schools ranked inside this week’s top 25. The Mountaineers have won three of their last four matches for a 5-2 overall record, their best start to a season since the 2015-16 campaign.
Iowa ranks No. 1 this week, followed by Michigan at No. 2 and Penn State at No. 3. NC State is No. 4, while Oklahoma State rounds out the top five.
Virginia Tech sits at No. 6, Missouri follows at No. 7 and Nebraska ranks No. 8. Illinois comes in at No. 9, while Ohio State completes the top 10.
Additionally, West Virginia received votes in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top-25 Poll for the second straight week. As a team, WVU was last ranked on Jan. 14, 2016.
WVU (5-2, 1-1) opens the month of February on the road, as the Mountaineers head to Laramie, Wyoming, for a dual against Wyoming (2-2, 1-1) on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 12 p.m. ET.
Following its match against the Cowboys, WVU travels to Greeley, Colorado, for a pair of neutral-site matches against Fresno State (0-3, 0-1) and Air Force (0-3, 0-3) later that evening. The Mountaineers match against the Bulldogs is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Air Force at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET.
