Around the Big 12: Conference Championship Locked in Place

Maybe for a moment Mountaineers fans can just ignore the terrible loss in Ames on Saturday. As the game was just getting started, Iowa State’s trip to the Big 12 conference championship was solidified regardless of the outcome of the West Virginia-Iowa State game.

Let’s take a look around the rest of the Big 12:

Texas at Kansas State: The Longhorns are back. At least for one week. Literally one week after their home loss to the Cyclones, rumors swirling about the temperature of Tom Herman’s seat and Urban Meyer’s real estate habits; the Longhorns continued to hand the Wildcats their weekly loss. The Longhorns showed up big in Manhattan, it was just a week to late in terms of trying to stop Iowa State’s conference championship desires. Kansas State has been on a true downward spiral since losing to the Mountaineers on Halloween.

Kansas at Texas Tech: West Virginia’s loss to Texas Tech is officially looking worse by the week. This past weekend’s game versus the Jayhawks only furthered the fact that that October loss was just a plain bad loss. The Jayhawks will be winless in the 2020 season, and it’s only a matter of time before the heat starts ticking up on Les Miles’s seat as well.

Oklahoma State at TCU: As the Mountaineers were getting ready to kick off in Ames, the Cowboys were losing to the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth. Oklahoma State started the season off hot and now will fizzle out after losses to both Oklahoma and a subpar TCU. A much-needed win for TCU, but not a quality loss for Oklahoma State.

Baylor at Oklahoma: The Bears looked the best they’ve looked this season in their visit to Norman. For just a split second, it almost seemed like the Sooners had met their match in the Bears. While the game was not the offensive explosion many were expecting from the Sooners, the Bears were able to give a little glimpse of what may to come next season.

The Mountaineers play host to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, December 12 with a noon kickoff on ABC. Saturday’s game is the makeup game from November 28, with the game being Senior Day for the Mountaineers.
