Around the Big 12: Kansas football pauses workouts

Lawrence, KS – In this week’s installment of “Around the Big 12,” we scoot over to the other Kansas team; the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks are in their second year under seasoned head coach Les Miles and look to increase the successes the Jayhawks saw their first year with Miles at the helm.

The growing spread of COVID-19 has been a reoccurring theme across all news outlets, not just sports, over the last few weeks and months. Days before the Fourth of July holiday, the Jayhawks football program announced that voluntary workouts would be temporarily suspended.

The Jayhawks program has had roughly 16 players test positive recently, with all players undergoing a mandatory 14-day quarantine until symptoms have gone.

The University of Kansas has tested about 160 student-athletes over the last several weeks and had just three positive cases before the round of football players tested positive.

Kansas State had also suspended workouts during the month of June after an uptick of positive test results.
