Assistant Erik Martin Will Stay Put in West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – (April 14, 2021) — On Wednesday night, the University of Cincinnati announced that they are hiring Wes Miller to become their next men’s basketball head coach—which means WVU assistant Erik Martin will remain with the Mountaineers.

Martin was a leading candidate after Cincinnati interviewed him twice in the last few days. It was reported that Martin and Cincinnati had been negotiating a contract on Monday.

Bob Huggins and former Cincinnati players had pitched Martin to be the next head coach for the Bearcats. Martin played for the Bearcats from 1991-93, as he contributed a big role on their Final Four and Elite Eight runs.

Huggins will now keep his main assistants for the 2021-22 season with Larry Harrison, Ron Everhart and Martin.
