Big 12 putting their stamp on college basketball so far this season

On Monday, the Associated Press Top 25 poll was released and the conference with the highest percentage of teams in the Top 25 was the Big 12.

When last week’s poll was released, the Big 12 had four teams inside the Top 25. This week, that number rose to five, while two other Big 12 teams received votes. In total 70% of the conference was at least in consideration for this weeks poll.

The Big 12 boasts No. 1 Baylor, No. 7 Kansas, No. 11 Iowa State, No. 17 Texas, and No. 25 Texas Tech. Oklahoma received 46 votes, while West Virginia received 24, and both sit just outside the Top 25.

Last week, there were five Big 12 teams who faced off against Top 25 opponents — in those games, the Big 12 team went 4-1.

Texas Tech beat No. 13 Tennessee 57-52, West Virginia beat No. 15 UConn 56-53, Oklahoma beat No. 12 Arkansas 88-66, and Baylor capped off the week dominating No. 6 Villanova 57-36. The only Top 25 loss of the week came with Texas falling on the road to No. 23 Seton Hall 64-60.

This week, Texas Tech will be the only Big 12 school to play another Top 25 team, as the Red Raiders will look for a statement win against No. 5 Gonzaga on Saturday.
