Although West Virginia did not receive any votes in the Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Monday, the Big 12 had three teams within the top ten.
No. 3 Kansas, No. 5 Texas, and No. 8 Baylor all were in the top ten of the poll. No other members of the Big 12 were ranked, but Oklahoma State received 25 votes, and Texas Tech received 17 votes.
The Big 12 ranks fourth among Power Five conferences with team’s in the initial poll. The Big Ten and SEC lead all conferences with five ranked teams, while the ACC has four ranked teams, with the Big 12 having three, and the Pac-12 with two.
West Virginia will look to rebound after losing key players Miles McBride and Derek Culver and will have to prove themselves this season. The Mountaineers were also picked to finish fifth in the conference.
West Virginia’s season gets underway on Nov. 9 against Oakland.
