Blue Gold Sports Staff Predictions Game Eight: Iowa State Cyclones

Wesley Shoemaker: The Mountaineers played the best game of their season last week. And this week they will try to do it again at home. I think having a home game for the first time in a month will have an impact. Neal Brown will have his guys ready to go and this team will still be pissed off from last season. West Virginia wins one late in the 4th quarter.

Carleigh Minor: Moving on from an intense game against TCU, I hope that West Virginia can keep their momentum. Looking at Iowa State it’s going to be a tough game. They are currently 5-2 while WVU is 3-4. I think being under the support of the mountaineer is going to be very helpful, but I’m not too sure that we’re going to be able to pull a win on Saturday. It’s going to be a very intense game due to Iowa being tied for second in the big 12, so I hope WVU can really buckle down and get this win.

Hayley Maguire:

Iowa state is coming off of a huge win against Oklahoma State this past weekend. Iowa state has a great offense and defense compared to a one-sided WVU. The Iowa state defense will most likely dominate the Mountaineers. West Virginia is back to home field advantage which will definitely help them out but it’s hard to tell if that will be enough. The last 3 meetings between the two teams have resulted in Iowa state wins. The Mountaineers will have some momentum coming off this long awaited win but it’s going to be tough to pull through again this week.

Aaron Parker: Coming off a big road win against TCU, West Virginia will be excited to get back to Mountaineer Field and play in front of the home crowd for the first time in nearly a month. Iowa State is coming in nationally ranked, and for good reason, as they defeated No. 8 Oklahoma State last week. I tend to think that WVU will come out of the gates ready to go and they will start fast. I think Leddie Brown will have two first half touchdowns that will keep the Mountaineers in good shape. Unfortunately for WVU, Cyclones quarterback Brock Purdy has been beating up on the Mountaineers since 2018. He is 3-0 against WVU in his career, and I believe he will lead Iowa State to a big third quarter explosion. I think Jarret Doege will throw a late touchdown to make it a one-score game, but I think Iowa State will come out on top again.
