Blue Gold Sports Staff Predictions Game Twelve: Kansas Jayhawks

Ashley O’Brien: We are here, the last game of the regular season. The first half did not start the way any of us wanted, but this team has turned things around and have won three of their last five games. West Virginia has a chance to become bowl eligible for the second straight year, which would be a huge accomplishment for Neal Brown and his staff considering this team started 2-4. I think Doege will have a good showing against a Kansas defense that has given up a lot of points. I think the defense keeps it close, and West Virginia will be going bowling.

Wesley Shoemaker: Three words for this week… let’s go bowling!! West Virginia is in a win and you are in scenario for a bowl game. West Virginia should dominate Kansas especially when running the ball. I think the Mountaineers are more than capable of winning this game by double digits, but they are also capable of losing, because you never know. I think this group wants to go to a bowl game, especially the seniors who have said they didn’t want this season to be a wash after starting 2-4. I expect this team to still play inspired and to beat Kansas easily.

WVU 45, Kansas 21

Quinn Burkitt: Following their big victory over Texas last weekend, West Virginia will carry some momentum with them into Lawrence, Kansas in their final regular season matchup of the season. I see the Mountaineers taking care of the Jayhawks this weekend as they must win one more game in order to become bowl eligible. This 2-9 Kansas team has experienced yet another rough campaign only beating Texas in overtime and South Dakota to begin the season. For a West Virginia offense that averages 26.2 points per game and looked electric against Texas last week, it’ll be too much for a Kansas defense that allows 42.9 points per game.

West Virginia 31, Kansas 17

Carleigh Minor: With an amazing win over Texas, I think West Virginia has a good chance of beating the Kansas Jayhawks. Seeing that they are 10th in the Big 12 gives me hope for WVU. The Jayhawks have lost too many teams this year that WVU has been able to power over, so I think that the Mountaineers will come out on top this weekend. I’m hoping to see Garrett Greene play for some of the game, being our last game I think he should have some decent time on the field. I believe that Leddie Brown and Bryce Wheaton will have some runs during the game. I like to see some passes being made to Sam James too, looking at the last game he had some decent openings. If the communication is there we will have no problem winning our last game for this season.

Aaron Parker: Coming off a huge win against Texas, West Virginia will control their own destiny in the last week of the season, as they are one win away from clinching a bowl birth. While Kansas only has two wins, they have a recent road victory over Texas, and they’ve proven they can keep up with Oklahoma. I think the Mountaineers will end up rolling in this game, but I think it will take a while to pull away. I think Jarret Doege will have another good game and I think he’ll throw a couple of touchdowns. I believe running back Leddie Brown will find the end zone twice and also surpass the 1,000 yard mark on the season, as he currently has 909. While I think the Jayhawks will score some points to hang around, I think Saturday is all about the Mountaineers as they push for a bowl game.
