West Virginia University men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins spoke with Tony Caridi after the Mountaineers 70-66 win over Boston College in the semifinals of the Puerto Rico Tipoff.
The Mountaineers trailed by 11 points at the half, but WVU caught fire from behind the arc hitting seven from downtown in the second half. Javon Carter and Daxter Miles lead those efforts.
“I have been trying to say that both of our freshman guards Miles and Carter can both make shots,” said Huggins. “They’re both very capable shot makers, they just haven’t made any yet. I can’t explain it. Today, they made shots. When Juwan got in early foul trouble, they both stepped up and contributed big time.”
WVU shot 55% in the second half.
Javon Carter, Devin Williams and Juwan Staten each had 15 points to pace the Mountaineers.
The win moves West Virginia to 4-0 on the season, and will now play No. 17 UConn in the championship game on Sunday.
ESPN2 will televise the game and tip is set for 6:30.
