Well, Joe Lunardi was a man of his word. Earlier in the week, Lunardi tweeted out that the winner of West Virginia-Texas Tech would get pushed up to a 3-seed.
Lunardi moved the Mountaineers up to a 3-seed in his latest Bracketology release on Friday.
Region 3:
- Michigan / 16. Sam Houston St.
- Alabama / 15. UMBC
- West Virginia / 14. UC Irvine
- USC / 13. UNC Greensboro
- Oklahoma / 12. Utah State
- Creighton / 11. Boise St.
- Colorado / 10. Indiana
- Clemson / 9. BYU
Big 12 Seeds
- Baylor – 1 Seed
- Texas Tech – 3 Seed
- West Virginia – 3 Seed
- Texas – 4 Seed
- Kansas – 5 Seed
- Oklahoma – 5 Seed
- Oklahoma St. – 8 Seed
This would be an ideal region for WVU as a 3-seed. Michigan and Alabama are very great teams, but I would be confident in giving them games. The potential second round matchup of Creighton/Boise St. would be very interesting for WVU. If I had to pick now, I would want to play the Jayhawks, rather than the Broncos.
Today’s game against Oklahoma is another pivotal game for both teams. If OU wins, they’ll probably rise a seed. If WVU can pull off their fourth-straight win, they could potentially move up to a 2-seed. Having the Baylor series next week getting postponed could save WVU from dropping.
Still a lot of basketball to be played, but it’s nice to see the Mountaineers play so well since the Florida loss.
