BREAKING: Former WVU wide receiver Stedman Bailey injured in Florida shooting

Former West Virginia University and current St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey has suffered multiple gunshot wounds while a car, in which he was a passenger, was the target of a shooting in South Florida. The driver of the vehicle, Bailey’s cousin, is said to have life threatening injuries.

Reports indicate that Bailey was in a vehicle with family members at the time of the incident.

According to other reports, Bailey’s injuries are said to be non-life threatening. Bailey will undergo what has been described as ‘extensive’ head surgery on Wednesday morning.

The St. Louis Rams released a brief statement regarding Bailey’s condition just hours after the initial news was first reported.

“We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening.  We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition.  We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

Early this morning CBS news out of Miami reported they had spoken to Bailey who had this to say:

Bailey was drafted 92nd overall by the Rams in the 2013 NFL Draft. He was recently suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
