As Blue Gold Sports reported yesterday, Alabama’s Doug Belk was interviewed at West Virginia to fill the void left at cornerbacks coach. We can now confirm that Belk has in fact been hired as the newest coach for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Belk was previously a graduate assistant/defensive backs coach under Nick Saban at the University of Alabama.
Belk has been with the Crimson TIde since the 2014. Belk has been seen as one of the top up and coming coaches in college football, now taking his young talent to Morgantown to fill the void left last week by Coach Blue Adams.
West Virginia has seen new additions on the coaching staff since the regular season concluded and bringing in Doug Belk from a program as prestigious as Alabama will be a great addition for the Mountaineers.
Sources state that Nick Saban himself called Coach Tony Gibson telling him to interview Belk for the newly vacant position. As Coach Saban is one of the most respected coaches in college football, and quite possibly football in general, a reference from Saban certainly speaks volumes. Coach Belk is the latest addition to West Virginia’s coaching staff after several post-signing day departures.
