Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham and West Virginia’s Miles McBride shared Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week while Cunningham was also named Newcomer of the Week. McBride picked up his third honor of the season and fifth in his career. Cunningham has won six awards this season.
Cunningham posted 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting along with five rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a block in OSU’s win over Iowa State. The freshman was 4-of-6 from 3-point in the game, which moved his season 3-point percentage to 44.6 percent – fifth best in Cowboy basketball history. Cunningham’s line wasn’t far off of his season averages of 18.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. The freshman guard is one of just five power conference players in the last 20 years that can boast this stat line.
McBride scored 17 points to go with four assists and three rebounds in WVU’s win at No. 12 Texas. He helped key the Mountaineers’ 19-point second half comeback as they extended their road winning streak to five games. The sophomore guard shot 41.7 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range. He ranks in seven different statistical categories in the Big 12.
