MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (October 19, 2020) – After leading the Mountaineers to a first-place finish at the Youthtowne cross country course, redshirt sophomore Katherine Dowie of the West Virginia University cross country team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Notching her first career victory, Dowie finished first overall with a 5k time of 17:58:1 in Clinton, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 16. The Carisbrook, Victoria, Australia native was one of four Mountaineers to finish inside the top five and one of 10 in the top 20 at the meet.
WVU’s first-place finish was over Pitt in its first meet of the season. Dowie and the Mountaineers continue their 2020 season on Friday, Oct. 30, in Lawrence, Kansas, at the Big 12 Championship, at Rim Rock Farm.

Last Week in Volleyball: The Mountaineers earned a series sweep over the Horned Frogs at the WVU Coliseum last week, extending their win streak to four with a five-set win on Thursday, followed by a four-set victory on Friday … WVU finished the week hitting .160 with 103 kills and 26 total blocks, including a season-best 16 team blocks on Friday … senior middle blocker Briana Lynch turned in a team-best 13 total blocks, averaging 1.44 blocks per set, in the two-match series, followed by classmate Audrey Adams with 12 (1.33 b/s) … senior libero Alexa Hasting dug 36 balls over the weekend to average 4.00 digs per set, while junior setter Lacey Zerwas dished out 76 assists to average 8.44 per set … additionally, junior outside hitter Natali Petrova posted a team-best 28 kills in the two-match series, followed by classmate Kristin Lux with 25 swings.
