WVU RB Dreamius Smith was disappointed to not be drafted this weekend during the NFL Draft but wasn’t waiting long to hear from teams afterwards. Smith has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers on Saturday.
Smith, 6’0 220lbs., was a change of pace back with good hands at WVU and could be utilized in a similar role with the Chargers. NFL teams were concerned with his ball security after he fumbled 3 times last season with only 80 carries.
Smith could the type of player that sticks with the Chargers given their need at the position. The Chargers did draft Melvin Gordon in the first round, but with Danny Woodhead coming off an injury, Smith could receive a similar role until Woodhead is healthy.
