No Extension Yet For WVU’s DeForest?

As was reported just days ago by multiple media outlets, including, it seemed as though WVU special teams coordinator and safeties coach Joe DeForest had agreed to a one year contract extension with a reduction in pay. It had been long speculated that interim AD Keli Cunningham had been working on negotiating a salary reduction in order for DeForest to stay on the staff.

However, after reviewing the contract details of all extensions that had been signed over the last week one name appeared to be missing. Via a Freedom of Information Act request WVU released all details of the contracts of Lonnie Galloway, JaJuan Seider, Bruce Tall, Brian Mitchell, and Joe DeForest. The glaring difference was that the information received on DeForest was his prior contract which is still set to expire at the end of this month.

The only explanation for this is that DeForest indeed has NOT yet signed a contract extension contrary to reports. With the coaching convention set to commence in only days it now seems the staff may not yet be solidified and that DeForest may not be on the staff next season. It could also simply mean that DeForest has yet to sign the offer.
