First Bowl Predictions Have State in Frenzy

We are months away from the beginning of the 2015 college football season and even further away from bowl season. But inevitably as soon as the Football Bowl Association releases the bowl schedules every season writers across the country publish their way-to-early bowl predictions.

This year is no different. AP writer Ralph Russo published his predictions yesterday morning and it seems the stars have the chance to align for an epic showdown in Dallas.

Russo has predicted the Mountaineers to play none other than the Herd in the Heart of Dallas Bowl played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas on December 26th.

While the entire state will quickly take a stand on this prediction, you must remember that in order for WVU to fall to this game there may be more at stake than a rivalry game outside the confines of West Virginia. While it is not clear where the Heart of Dallas Bowl fits into the Big 12 tie-in schedule it is safe to assume that a middle of the pack Big 12 team will be awarded this game. Middle of the pack may not be enough for Dana Holgorsen when many are stating anything else than 8-9 wins would be considered a failure this coming season.

While the Heart of Dallas Bowl was not part of the Big 12 bowl tie-in schedule last year it will be in 2015. Conference USA has a yearly tie-in with the bowl while the Big 12 and Big 10 rotate tie-ins every other year. The Big 12 will have a tie-in in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

Last years game placed a 6-6 Illinois against CUSA runner-up Louisiana Tech.
