Georgia Southern outduels WVU in series finale

STATESBORO, Ga.–Daniel Collins outdueled Kade Strowd as Georgia Southern defeated West Virginia 1-0 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Collins (0.45 ERA) pitched six innings of scoreless baseball. He gave up four hits, struck out five and issued no walks for the Eagles (2-4).

Strowd (2.45 ERA) tossed 6.2 innings and surrendered just two hits. He walked one and fanned eight for the Mountaineers (4-3).

The lone Georgia Southern run was unearned.

In the bottom of the sixth, Nolan Tressler reached on third baseman Tristen Hudson’s error. Tressler went to third on Blake Evans’ base hit and scored on Jason Swan’s ground ball to short that handcuffed Tevin Tucker, who couldn’t get the throw off in time.

WVU added a game against Towson at home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. Admission is free and fans can bring their own food due to the concession stands being closed.
