Goetz Begins NCAA Regional Play on Monday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 16, 2021) – West Virginia University senior golfer Mark Goetz begins play in the NCAA Regional at The Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana, on Monday.

Goetz, Golfweek’s 72nd-ranked collegiate golfer, was an individual qualifier in this year’s event – a first in WVU golf history.

The Greensburg, Pennsylvania, resident will play 54 holes against nine other individuals in the regional. The low individual not on an advancing team from each of the six regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championship later this month. Goetz will tee off at 10:23 a.m. on Monday with 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday and 18 more on Wednesday.

“The way I view this is it’s a great opportunity for him because you’ve got some of the best amateur golfers in the world playing there – a couple of Walker Cuppers, at least three I know, are going to be there,” coach Sean Covich said. “So whatever Mark does this week is only going to help his world amateur ranking, which is our goal to improve that. I’m looking forward to seeing him take advantage of this opportunity.”
