After making his NFL debut last Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers interim coach Perry Fewell announced Monday that Will Grier will get the start in the final game of the season.
The Panthers are coming off a 38-6 loss Saturday afternoon, in which Grier finished 27-44, for 224 yards, and three interceptions.
Panthers veteran tight-end Greg Olsen defended Grier and the situation the team had put him in, throwing him into the fire despite the multitude of issues the team is currently facing.
“(Will) was thrown into an impossible situation,” said Olsen. “There were failures all around him. I hope nobody passes any judgement on Will’s ability as a player, in the future going forward. There were a lot of things at play that he had to suffer the consequences of.”
Despite the difficulties scoring points in the red-zone, Grier was able to withstand long drives, extend plays with his feet, and navigate the pocket well in his NFL debut.
This Sunday will mark Will’s first regular-season start at home as a member of the Carolina Panthers, as the Drew Brees led New Orleans Saints come into Charlotte as one of the top teams in the NFC.
The game will kick-off at 1:00 and will be broadcasted on FOX.
