It Isn’t Over Till It’s Over

Heading into the month of June WVU football recruiting was in a bad funk with seemingly no end in sight. WVU fans were full of doubters that were discouraged by the direction this recruiting class was heading. Now while I don’t put too much emphasis on the star ratings, ( The 5 Star Effect), if you base your opinions of this class on those ratings then the Mountaineers class isn’t the sexiest pick  but certainly does have contributors on both sides of the ball. Then seemingly out of the dark the Mountaineers caught fire and have changed the outlook of the 2016 class.

The Mountaineers have landed 7 commits in the month of June and all of a sudden are sitting in a great position to finish out an undervalued class. WVU was able to land top JUCO safety Kyzir White, underrated LB Adam Hensley, all purpose running back Martell Pettaway, kicking specialist Jonn Young, versatile offensive linemen Josh Sills and Jacob Buccigrossi, and rising tight end prospect Trevon Wesco all in the month of June alone. Now all of the sudden the naysayers that were downing this class a month ago, are singing the praises of the coaching staff but the Mountaineers are far from done.

WVU was also able to be listed as a finalist for three big time prospects in 4 star WR Steven Smothers, 3 star DE Zach Gilbert, and TE Thaddeus Moss. The Mountaineers are also considered a favorite for 4 star ATH Rontavius Groves, 3 star RB Adrian Killins, 4 star LB Brendan Ferns, 3 star DB Devin Studstill, 3 star RB Kennedy McKoy, and 3 star DB Therran Coleman.

Now we throw in the wildcard projections which include 4 star WR’s Tino Ellis and Donnie Corley, who is a teammate of Mountaineers commit Martell Pettaway. DE Tymar Sutton has been to WVU on numerous occasions and looks to have the Mountaineers near the top of his recruitment.

Three of the top sleepers that could be huge gets for the Mountaineers are 3 star OL Zach Adams, DB Cycoby Burch, and ATH Kaezon Pugh, all three of which have visited the WVU campus in the past but are taking their time with their recruitment.

A strong month of June has pushed the Mountaineers into a position to end on a strong note and be one of the top classes in the Big 12 conference, if not the country.

Just remember this phrase throughout this entire process Mountaineer fans; It isn’t over till it’s over.
