CHARLOTTE – The 2016 NFC Champion Carolina Panthers held a two-day rookie minicamp last weekend. 35 NFL hopefuls were invited to tryout for a spot on the team’s possible 90-man roster, and only six of those players were offered contracts.
Former WVU linebacker and North Carolina native Jared Barber was one of them.
Per spotrac.com, Barber signed a three-year deal worth $1,620,000. The contract also included a $540,000 signing bonus. According to the current Panthers roster, Barber will be wearing the No. 49 jersey during the 2016-17 season.
With the addition of Barber and the five other new signees, the Panthers now have 88 players on roster. Barber will be joining third round draft pick (77th overall) and former WVU teammate Daryl Worley on the Carolina defense.
