MORGANTOWN, W.VA– West Virginia junior tight end Jovani Haskins has been named to the John Mackey Award watch list, a yearly award presented to the nation’s most outstanding tight end.
Haskins got snaps as a redshirt sophomore last season behind starter Trevon Wesco, catching 16 passes for 148 yards, including a 14 yard touchdown against Kansas.
With Wesco graduated and playing for the New York Jets this season, Haskins will have an opportunity to break out offensively and play a large role in the 2019 campaign, while becoming a leader in a young and inexperienced receiving core for the Mountaineers.
Sixty tight ends across the FBS were mentioned in the watch list, including Big 12 athletes Grant Calcaterra and Charlie Kolar from Oklahoma and Iowa State respectively.
Former recipients of the award include Dwayne Allen, Austin Stefarian-Jenkins, and T.J. Hockenson, who all went on to play in the NFL.
The Home Depot College Football Awards will be presented live on December 12th, 2019.
