This morning kicked off JUCO signing day for all early enrolling prospects and there were high hopes for the Mountaineer football team but things didn’t quite turn out that way. WVU had hopes that they would possibly sign three JUCO prospects by this afternoon but instead saw things spiral downhill from the start.

JUCO DB’s Neiko Robinson and Elijah Battle were supposed to come in next season and give the WVU staff some experience in their secondary as they attempt to rebuild it but both saw opportunities at other schools. Robinson visited WVU this past weekend and was thought to be a silent commit but decided to stay closer to home when he signed with South Alabama.  Battle was a committed to the Mountaineers for a couple of weeks but an offer and official visit to Minnesota was viewed as a problem for WVU. After his visit to Minnesota, Battle spoke with me and confirmed that he would still sign with WVU even though he enjoyed his visit to Minnesota but things didn’t play out that way.

The only bright spot to the day is that JUCO DT Tyrell Chavis didn’t sign with a school today. The Mountaineers are still considered the favorites to land the talented defensive lineman. After cancelling another visit to Auburn this past weekend, it was viewed that Chavis would sign with WVU today but it appears that he won’t enroll early with whichever school he signs with.
