Devon Dotson (Kansas) and Oscar Tshiebwe (West Virginia) led their teams to tournament championships to earn men’s basketball weekly awards. Dotson picked up his first Big 12 Player of the Week and second career honor. Tshiebwe was recognized as Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season.
Dotson was named the co-MVP of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational as he guided Kansas to three wins and the tournament title. The sophomore guard led the Jayhawks in scoring with 21.0 ppg as well as in total assists (13), steals (8) and free throws made (13). In the title game, Dotson played all 45 minutes in the 90-84 overtime victory over Dayton and scored a career-high 31 points with six rebounds, four assists and a career-high five steals.
Freshman forward Tshiebwe had 19 points and 18 rebounds in the Cancun Challenge championship game to earn MVP honors and lead West Virginia to the title. In three games last week, he averaged 12.0 points and 9.7 rebounds. Tshiebwe has three double-doubles in his first seven collegiate games.
