KANSAS CITY, Mo.–Dedric Lawson dropped 24 points as Kansas defeated West Virginia 88-74 on Friday night to advance to the Big 12 Championship Game.
Quentin Grimes scored 18 points, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Devon Dotson had 13 and Marcus Garrett 11 for the Jayhawks (24-8).
Lamont West tallied 16 points for the Mountaineers (14-19). Derek Culver had 14 points and 11 boards. Brandon Knapper chipped in 10 points.
Kansas dominated WVU on the glass, outrebounding the Mountaineers 43-33.
WVU led much of the first half but the Jayhawks took the lead for good with 2:54 left in the first half. Grimes sank a 3 with three seconds to go to give Kansas a 48-40 lead at the break.
The Mountaineers hung around early in the second half but a 13-2 run allowed the Jayhawks to pull away.
WVU shot 43 percent from the field, 27 percent from 3-point range and 47 percent from the charity stripe.
Kansas shot 52 percent from the floor, 40 percent from long range and 88 percent from the line.
The Jayhawks play Iowa State in the championship game on Saturday.
