WACO, Texas–Mario Kegler scored 23 points as Baylor defeated West Virginia 82-75 in a back-and-forth battle on Saturday afternoon.

Devonte Bandoo chipped in 22 points for the Bears (18-9, 9-5 Big 12). Mark Vital had 15 points and Jared Butler added 12.

Jordan McCabe had a career day for the Mountaineers (10-17, 2-12), scoring 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.

Lamont West tallied 16 points and Andrew Gordon had 13.

Both teams battled the entire game, exchanging leads 12 times but Baylor outscored WVU 16-5 in the final minutes to put the game away.

“We competed,” head coach Bob Huggins said. “I’m excited to get in there and get back with them tomorrow and get ready for (Tuesday night).”

The Bears outrebounded the Mountaineers 37-33.

WVU was without Brandon Knapper (strained neck), Sagaba Konate (knee) and Beetle Bolden (ankle).

The Mountaineers shot 43 percent from the floor, 27 percent from beyond the arc and made 23-of-34 from the charity stripe.

“If we make our free throws we win the game,” Huggins said.

Baylor shot 45 percent, 38 percent from 3-point range and made 26-of-35 from the line.

WVU returns home on Tuesday when TCU comes to town
