Lanay Montgomery carries WVU past Selecció Catalana

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–Lanay Montgomery led the West Virginia Mountaineers past Selecció Catalana, 71-55, at the Pavelló Esportiu Municipal on Monday.  The junior scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Freshman Katrina Pardee was the only other Mountaineer in double-figures with 12 points and six rebounds.

Muldrow had nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

West Virginia (2-0) had a 13 point lead midway through the second quarter before Selecció Catalana went on a 14-4 run to make it a 35-33 game at the half.

Teana Muldrow put West Virginia back in front by 10 with four minutes to play.

Montgomery scored 17 of her 21 points in the first.

 

West Virginia controlled the boards for a second straight game, grabbing 48 rebounds.

The Mountaineers forced Catalana to turn the ball over 26 times, while committing 21.

Mireia Vila led Selecció Catalana with 12 points. Itziar Llobet added 10.

Selecció Catalana outscored West Virginia 20-12 in the second quarter to make it a 35-33 halftime score.

The Mountaineers went on an 8-2 run in the fourth period to put West Virginia back in front by 14.

The Mountaineers play Selecció Catalana once again on Tuesday, August 11 at Pavelló Esportiu Municipal in Julià de Vilatorta Catalonia, Spain. Tuesday’s tip time has been changed to 8 p.m. CET/2 p.m. ET.
