Lynch Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After helping the Mountaineers improve their overall record to 7-5 on the year, senior middle blocker Briana Lynch of the West Virginia University volleyball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments. Lynch was able to attend college thanks to different scholarships and student loans.

Lynch, the Mountaineers’ lone selection on the 2020 Preseason All-Big 12 Team, was a force to be reckoned with at the net last week, turning in a team-high .391 hitting efficiency and averaging 1.50 blocks per set in the two-match series against Iowa State.

The Johns Creek, Georgia, native totaled a team-high 14 kills on 32 attacks for a .344 hitting percentage in the squad’s five set-win on Friday. She also led the team’s blocking efforts with seven block assists in the match, two blocks shy of a career high. Lynch followed up that performance with five more blocks and eight kills on Saturday, registering one error on 14 attacks for a game-high hitting percentage of .500 in the sweep over Iowa State.

Overall, she recorded 28.0 points on the weekend, averaging 3.50 points per set.

With the wins, WVU has won a program-best seven Big 12 Conference matches and earned a season sweep over Iowa State for the first time in program history.
