Manoah strikes out 15 in walk-off win

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 20, 2019) – Junior Alek Manoah fanned 15 batters in a complete-game shutout and junior Marques Inman blasted a walk-off home run to carry No. 20 West Virginia to a 1-0 win over Kansas on Saturday afternoon.

Manoah extended his shutout streak to 31.2 consecutive innings and the Mountaineers  (23-13, 7-6 Big 12) walked it off for the second time in three games. The right-hander did not allow a run on three hits with no walks and 15 strikeouts.

Deadlocked in a scoreless game, Inman drove a 1-2 pitch to center field to seal the victory over Jayhawks (19-17, 4-9 Big 12). It was his sixth long ball of the season.

Manoah’s 15 strikeouts give him 95 on the season and 200 in his career. He is the fourth player in program history with multiple 15-strikeout games in the same season, and the first since John Radosevich struck out 17 once and 16 twice in 1965.

The series continues with today’s second game and will conclude on Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
