After averaging 16 points off the bench this past week, Mountaineer guard Miles McBride has been named the Co- Big 12 Newcomer of the week.
McBride is sharing the honor with Baylor Bear MaCio Teague. Teague cashed in for 16 points and 7 rebounds in the Bears win on the road at Allen Fieldhouse.
Miles had arguably his best game of the season this past Saturday at home against the Red Raiders, dropping 22 points on 8-11 shooting, in 25 minutes of action.
This is the second time being named the Newcomer of the Week for McBride, who also received the award on December 30th after his 20 point night against Ohio State. Oscar Tshiebwe has also been awarded the title three times this season.
McBride has made his presence felt early in conference play and has continued to be a go-to guy for Bob Huggins off the bench when the Mountaineers need a basket late.
Miles’ play has also gained recognition from ESPN’s veteran Big 12 commentator Fran Fraschilla, who has raved about the young freshman’s work ethic and toughness.
“He knows how to compete and how to be a great teammate,” said Fraschilla. “I am not surprised at all by the poise he has out here. He kind of reminds me of Daxter Miles a little bit…he has the “it” factor and Mountaineer fans are going to love watching this guy play.”
