Trio leads Texas Tech past No. 12 WVU

LUBBOCK, Texas–Davide Moretti scored 25 points, Terrence Shannon Jr. added 23 points and Jahmi’us Ramsey had 21 as Texas Tech defeated No. 12 West Virginia 89-81 on Wednesday night.

Derek Culver tallied 16 points for the Mountaineers (16-4, 4-3 Big 12). Gabe Osabuohien chipped in 15 points. Taz Sherman had 11 points and Jermaine Haley and Deuce McBride both had 10.

TJ Holyfield had 11 points for the Red Raiders (13-7, 4-3).

Texas Tech used several runs to pull ahead of WVU but the Mountaineers kept responding. Trailing 44-38, Culver went to the line after Shannon was called for a technical for a shove on the big man.

WVU made two of four free throws and kept possession . Haley was fouled and sank both free throws, cutting the deficit to just two.

The Red Raiders wouldn’t let the Mountaineers any closer the rest of the night.

The Mountaineers shot 38.7 percent from the floor, 22.2 percent from 3 and 80.5 percent from the charity stripe.

Texas Tech shot 54.3 percent from the field, 64.7 percent from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent from the line.

WVU returns home on Saturday against Kansas State at 2 p.m.
