MORGANTOWN W.Va- West Virginia redshirt junior running back Alec Sinkfield has reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Sinkfield was recruited by Dana Holgorson as part of the 2017 class and was a 3-star RB known for his big-play potential and special teams ability.
Sinkfield, the Boynton Beach, Florida native, is coming off a season in which he rushed for 327 yards for three touchdowns on 78 attempts.
If Alec follows through with his transfer, he will finish his Mountaineer career with 553 all-purpose yards working his three seasons as both a running back and receiver.
Although a regular contributor for the Mountaineers, Alec sat behind All-Big 12 running back Leddie Brown on the depth chart who received the bulk of the carries in the backfield last season.
With the free year, Sinfield will have two years of eligibility left with the team that is able to sign him.
Per the rules of the NCAA, Sinkfield could always take his name out of the portal and return to the Mountaineers, but the coaching staff is not obligated to retain his scholarship.
With the transfer, Neal Brown will have his running backs room trimmed to the aforementioned Leddie Brown, Tony Mathis Jr., Avarius Sparrow, along with incoming freshman Justin Johnson and Jaylen Anderson.
