West Virginia has had a great deal of success with JUCO or graduate transfer pass rushers in recent history, so it should be no surprise the coaching staff decided to try that route again. They were successful again in landing a verbal commitment from DE Ezekiel Rose.
Rose, a 6’3 230 lbs. defensive end from East Mississippi Community College, was offered by the Mountaineers coaching staff last week and immediately set up a visit for this past weekend. At the conclusion of that visit, he knew he wanted to be a Mountaineer. “It was a great time this weekend. I really enjoyed touring the campus and talking to all the guys. Everybody that I was around was having a good time and joking around with each other.”
Rose will provide WVU with much needed depth on the ends of the 3-3-5 defensive line which is where he is most comfortable. “I talked to Coach Tall about where I would fit in and I like the fit.”
This past season Rose recorded 6.5 sacks for East Mississippi but his athleticism is what is most impressive about him. He can blitz but has the ability to drop into coverage which is crucial in Tony Gibson’s 3-3-5 scheme.
Rose will enroll at WVU in January as part of the big early enrollers class that the 2017 recruiting class features.
