Mountaineers bounce back, dismantle Texas in 38 point drubbing

MORGANTOWN W.Va.- The Mountaineers avenged their tough loss last Saturday, with a 97-59 blowout victory over the Longhorns Monday night, in front of over 12,000 fans at the Coliseum.

Playing possibly their most inspired basketball this season, the Mountaineers had an all-around effort victory that featured twelve scorers on offense.

“It’s so mental,” said Bob Huggins about the Mountaineers turnaround performance. “If you come in and you’re excited and prepared, and know what you have to do, you’re so much more likely to have success.”

The game marked Longhorn’s head coach Shaka Smart’s worst loss while at the helm of the Longhorns, and the fifth-worst loss in program history.

While the game ended with a Spencer Macke three to send the crowd into a frenzy, the Mountaineer depth stole the show all night. Oscar Tshiebwe tallied another double-double, while Derek Culver pounded in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Jermaine Haley and Jordan McCabe also had double-digits while Gabe Osabuohien, Logan Routt and Miles McBride were able to cash in for nine points each.

“This just shows you the determination and willpower that we have as a team,” said Sophomore Derek Culver. “Not many teams can do this on a short turnaround, so we had to go out there and play to our capabilities.”

With the win, he Mountaineers move to 15-3 (4-2) and will face Missouri in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge this Saturday.

The game will tip-off at 12:00 PM and will be televised on ESPN.
