Mountaineers continue to climb in Rothstein 45

Morgantown, W.VA. – The West Virginia men’s basketball team continues to climb basketball reporter/analyst’s top chart after two more wins this past week.

The Mountaineers had a slight schedule hiccup last week when it was announced that Robert Morris had too many COVID-19 cases and contact tracing quarantines to play the Mountaineers in Morgantown on Wednesday. After that call, the program went to work and found a substitute team to play, hosting North Texas in Morgantown Friday.

One ugly win on Friday afternoon and a statement win against ranked Richmond on Sunday put the Mountaineers in a position to move up in Rothstein’s rankings, and likely in the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll later on Monday.

On West Virginia, Rothstein’s weekly skinny was “Shot 8-14 from three-point range in Sunday’s win over Richmond.”

The Mountaineers open Big 12 play with Iowa State Friday night in Morgantown, with tip off at 9:00 ET.
