MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – (October 5th, 2020) — The West Virginia Mountaineers basketball program announced today that they will host the Richmond Spiders on December 13th in Morgantown.
This is a very good opportunity for the Mountaineers to get a very solid win that could add to their resume come March.
Richmond last season finished 24-7 with a second place finish in the Atlantic 10. Notable teams that Richmond beat last season were Wisconsin, VCU, Boston College, and Vanderbilt.
The Spiders should be even more better this year with their five seniors leading the team in scoring last year as juniors.
As of October 5th, West Virginia’s confirmed non-conference games are:
- 3 of: Creighton, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Utah, Memphis, Wichita State, and Dayton (Sioux Falls)
- @Georgetown (Big East-Big 12 Challenge)
- A SEC team (Big 12/SEC Challenge)
- Richmond (At Home)
Since WVU is playing in a MTE (Multi-Team Event), the Mountaineers can play a maximum of 27 regular season games before the tournament. If you do the math, you have 18-Big 12 games, three games in South Dakota, Big East Challenge, SEC Challenge, and Richmond. That’s 24 games.
That leaves Huggins and his staff to schedule three more games at most for the 2019-2020 basketball schedule.
