Munden, Johnson Power Mountaineers To Victory

After losing the first two of their games in Myrtle Beach on Friday, The WVU Baseball team came into Saturdays match up with Ball State looking to get the train back on track and try to salvage the road trip.

The Mountaineers did not take long to get on the Board, Shortstop Taylor Munden led off the home half of the 1st inning with a home run. Justin Fox followed with a triple and later scored giving the Mountaineers a 2 run lead after the 1st inning.

Te 2nd inning provedĀ even more productive for the Mountaineers. Tucker Cascadden singled to lead off the inning, KC Huth followed, reaching base on what was ruled a throwing error, and the Taylor Munden singled, driving in Cascadden. Justin Fox followed Munden to the plate, and was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Brad Johnson. Brad Johnson took the opportunity to do a little yard work, and it was Grand, giving the Mountaineers a 7-0 lead.

Ball State scored 3 runs in the top of the 3rd, 2 in the 4th and another in the 8th. Starter Adam Keller lasted 3 1/3 innings in his 1st college stat, and Jeff Hardy went 5 1/3 innings in relief. The Cardinals were trying to rally in the 9th and got the go ahead runner on base, when WVU Reliever Nick Wernke came in with 2 outs and slammed the door.

With the Victory the Mountaineers move to 4-6 on the season.

Tomorrow the Mountaineers will look to start the month of March off on the right foot and end their trip with a victory over #25 Illinois, game time is scheduled for 1:30 pm
