MANHATTAN, Kan.–Tarik Phillip scored with 4.5 seconds to play in the second overtime to carry No. 19 West Virginia past Kansas State 87-83 on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats were led by freshman guard Barry Brown, who scored 20 points. Wesley Iwundu had 16. Kamau Stokes added 15 and Dean Wade 13.
The Mountaineers made only 3 of 20 from 3-point range. They went 0-for-8 in the first half.
WVU committed 15 turnovers. It was the first time all season that the Mountaineers committed as many turnovers as their opponent.
There were 53 fouls called in today’s game and the two teams went to the free throw line a combined 63 times. K-State went to the line 43 times.
The Wildcats lost at home for the first time this season after an 8-0 start.
WVU will travel to TCU on Monday night.
