No. 20 Mountaineers drop second straight to Texas

AUSTIN, Texas–Andrew Jones scored 22 points as Texas down No. 20 West Virginia 67-57 on Monday night

Courtney Ramey added 21 points as the Longhorns (17-11, 7-8 Big 12) won their third straight.

The Mountaineers (19-9, 7-8) continued their downward spiral, dropping two in a row and sixth consecutive road games.

Oscar Tshiebwe tallied 14 points for WVU.

Jones had 16 points in the first half on a including going 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Texas shot 62% against one of the best defensive teams in the country and had a 34-28 lead at the half.

WVU pulled within three on a fast break layup by Jermaine Haley with 17:26 remaining but the Longhorns answered when Ramey drained a 3. With 13:45 to go, he sank another one to push Texas’ lead to 46-37.

Sean McNeil made a pair of free throws to pull the Mountaineers within 54-47 but Texas quickly responded, silencing any hopes of a rally.

WVU returns home against Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon.
