Offer Puts WVU Among Top With Cornerback

Devron Davis

Social media can be a very powerful recruiting tool. No one knows that better than 3 star cornerback Devron Davis. A 2016 recruit playing at Merced C.C. in Merced California had long had Colorado State alone at the top of his list. That was until WVU cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell contacted him on Twitter. The two struck up a conversation and before long Davis was on the phone with Mitchell receiving an offer from the Mountaineers.

“It was very unexpected” Davis said of the offer from Mitchell. Up until that contact on Twitter Davis has not heard from WVU and was unaware of their interest in him.

WVU immediately went to the top of his list putting them above other offers such as Washington State, Louisville, and most recently Pittsburgh. “I like the way they approach you as a player” Davis said of the appeal of being a Mountaineer.

Davis is also very familiar with the stars that have come from WVU such as Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, and Pat White. While Colorado State is still the clear favorite Davis plans on making a trip across the country to visit Morgantown after the season.

The WVU offer may have potentially prolonged a commitment to Colorado State who he plans to visit next weekend. WVU definitely has some ground to make up with Davis but recent offer has put the Mountaineers in a good position moving forward.
