Overseas Elite downs Best Virginia

Four-time defending champion Overseas Elite defeated Best Virginia 80-68 in The Basketball Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Virginia.

Through the first three quarters of the game, the Mountaineer alums and Overseas Elite battled it out in a slugfest. Overseas Elite led most of the game but Best Virginia never backed down.

Best Virginia took a 33-31 lead in the second half on Teyvon Myers’ 3-pointer. After that, Best Virginia missed several shots from beyond-the-arc and committed three costly miscues, allowing Overseas Elite to go on a 13-1 run over the last 2:47 of the first half to take a 10-point halftime lead.

Best Virginia tied the game in the third but at the end of the quarter Overseas Elite went on a 17-7 run to take a 65-54 lead. Best Virginia was unable to come back from the deficit. .

Best Virginia outshot Overseas Elite 71-50. However, they only hit 22 of them while Overseas Elite made 27.

Kevin Jones led Best Virginia with 20 points. Devin Williams notched his second double-double of the tournament with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Jaysean Paige added 11.

Overseas Elite had six players in double figures. Jeremy Pargo scored 20 points. D.J Kennedy, Jamarr Sanders and Bobby Brown each had 12.

Best Virginia was without Juwan Staten, who suffered an injury at the end of Friday’s contest.

Overseas Elite awaits the winner of The Web and Team DRC.

The win marks the 27th straight for Overseas Elite.
