Tampa, FL. – Beloved Mountaineer Pat White has a new job title and city to start the year 2020. Former quarterbacks coach at Alcorn State University has been named the running backs coach at the University of South Florida.
White is one Mountaineer that truly needs no recap or introduction as just his name brings back memories of his days wearing the Old Gold and Blue.
Coach White has spent the last two seasons getting his coaching career kicked off in the spring of 2018 on Alcorn State’s Mississippi campus. Now, the former quarterback will take a new role on the offense under new head coach Jeff Scott’s staff. White also joins former Mountaineers receivers coach Xavier Dye in Tampa.
White’s name is not unfamiliar to South Florida Bulls fans from the years both White and the Bulls went up against one another in the Big East. Bulls head coach Jeff Scott sang White’s praises when the hiring was announced Thursday afternoon.
“We are very excited to have Pat join our staff and lead our running backs unit,” Scott said. “Pat was an electrifying player that I’m sure Bulls fans remember well. He played at a very high level, broke records and won a lot of games as a quarterback at West Virginia and has had tremendous success in two seasons coaching at Alcorn State. He will be a great coach and mentor for our USF players.”
Big congratulations on the next step in coaching endeavors for White, as all Mountaineers likely know this hiring is just one step closer to those country roads potentially leading White home.
