On Friday evening, WVU baseball took on the Butler Bulldogs in their series opener and first game in the new Monongalia County Ballpark. Game 2 of the series is this afternoon at 4 p.m. and game 3 is Sunday at 1 p.m. In front of a large crowd of 3,110, the Mountaineers won 6-5 in the the 13th inning. With the game tied at 5, senior third baseman, Justin Fox, hit a single to left field driving in the winning run.
Fox is majoring in athletic coaching education and has been named to the BIG 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll. Before committing to WVU, he was a four-year letter winner at Magnolia High. He was also a captain of the Class AA All-State teams in baseball and football.
Freshman Season- 2012
Fox appeared in 15 games including four starts with his first career hit against against Michigan on (2/19).
Sophomore Season- 2013
He saw 28 games with 14 starts. During these games, he batted .232 with five runs and seven RBI.
Junior Season- 2014
Fox played in 35 games and started 21 of them at third base and one as the designated hitter. He batted .226 with two doubles and 10 RBI. Like last night, Fox drove in a game-winning run against Virginia Tech on (5/6).
His best two games this season so far have been ETSU and Georgia Southern. In these two games, he went 5-9 with 5 runs, two doubles, 5 RBI and two home run’s.
