Pro NFL Mountaineers Week 17

Week 17 of the NFL regular season saw eight former Mountaineer football players play snaps for their respective teams on Sunday. Perhaps the most outstanding performance of the day was Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kyzir White who collected 11 total tackles and five of his own in his team’s win over the Denver Broncos.

Kenny Robinson – S – Carolina Panthers

Robinson has been playing a step up in his sophomore campaign in the NFL recording 12 total tackles and seven solo stops through 17 weeks of the season. Yesterday saw his Panthers fall to the New Orleans Saints by eight points while Robinson made two tackles and one solo tackle in the loss.

Quinton Spain – OL – Cincinnati Bengals

Spain helped propel his Cincinnati Bengals to an AFC North division crown while knocking off a tough Kansas City Chiefs team. Spain blocked in front of quarterback Joe Burrow who threw for 446 yards and four touchdowns in the three point victory. Just by examining Burrow’s performance, anyone can see how well Spain and the rest of his offensive line pass protected the entire day.

Rasul Douglas – CB – Green Bay Packers

Green Bay took it to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football in this NFC North matchup while Douglas made three tackles and one solo tackle. Douglas has been enjoying quite the season with his Packers picking off quarterbacks five different times, half of his career interception mark of 10 career picks. The cornerback and the rest of the Packers secondary was able to shut down Vikings quarterback Sean Mannion’s passing attack as he threw for only 189 yards on the day.

Tavon Austin – WR – Jacksonville Jaguars

Austin has been one of Trevor Lawrence’s targets all season but hauled in three receptions for only two yards in the Jaguars 50-10 loss to the Patriots on Sunday. It doesn’t surprise anyone that Austin didn’t have as productive of a performance on a day in which Lawrence was picked off three times by New England’s defense.

Kyzir White – LB – Los Angeles Chargers

White had the most effective day of any of the former Mountaineers making 11 total tackles and five solo tackles against the Denver Broncos offense. The linebacker led Los Angeles’ defense on Sunday helping to set up a Chargers offense which scored 34 points on three different offensive touchdowns and one special teams touchdown.

David Sills V – WR – New York Giants

Sills V was only targeted one time on Sunday by quarterback Mike Glennon hauling in the lone reception for 12 yards. The Giants got stomped on by the Chicago Bears in which Glennon was sacked four different times including a record-breaking sack day for Bears linebacker Robert Quinn. Sills V and other receivers like Evan Engram, Kenny Golladay and Kyle Rudolph need to be more utilized more if New York would like to be successful offensively.

David Long Jr. – LB – Tennessee Titans

Long Jr. played in his ninth game of the season on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins in which he made four total tackles and two solo tackles. The linebacker also batted down one Tua Tagovailoa pass in Tennessee’s 34-3 drubbing.

Mark Glowinski – OG – Indianapolis Colts

Glowinski started in his 13th game and saw action in his 15th game of the season in his Colts loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, 23-20. The offensive lineman helped block for running back Jonathan Taylor to go for 108 yards and quarterback Carson Wentz to pass for 140 yards and a lone touchdown while only being sacked one time.
