Speaking to the media on Thursday, Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera stated the team was, “set at the left and right,” referring to the cornerback positions.
The Panthers drafted two rookie cornerbacks in the 2016 NFL draft. One of those rookies was former Mountaineer cornerback Daryl Worley who was selected in the third round, 77th overall.
Worley has been working with the first team defense, primarily at right corner. With Rivera stating his team is “set” at the cornerback position that means Worley, who took criticism for foregoing his senior year at WVU, is presumed to be the starter on opening day for the Panthers.
Both Panther rookies have impressed the Carolina staff early in training camp. Worley picked off quarterback Cam Newton on the first day and fellow rookie James Bradberry (Samford) has been able to go stride for stride with the Panthers best receivers.
