During his weekly press conference head coach Dana Holgorsen explained my David Sills has emerged as the starter at the WR (z) position over fellow true freshman Jovon Durante.

“He has excelled at wide receiver on the scout team”, Holgorsen said of Sills. Holgorsen also went on to say that the freshman quarterback has not been able to get many reps under center during practice, “it is hard to rep a third team QB”.

One reason Sills has failed to get reps at the QB position is because of his work on the scout team, “he loves to play football”, Holgorsen said of Sills. There was a need for a WR on the scout team and Sills took advantage of the opportunity.

Holgorsen said he will continue to experiment with Sills at the WR position for the immediate future. Sills had 2 catches for 64 yards and a touchdown against Baylor last week. He was targeted by Howard an additional 5 times although all felt incomplete.

While Gibson and Durante have explosive speed Sills, at 6’3, will add height to the receiving corp.
