Quick Hit: WVU-Florida State matchup in the works

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Mike Casazza of the Gazette-Mail first reported this afternoon that WVU and Florida State are close to finalizing a deal to open the 2020 season facing one another in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to the Palm Beach Post, WVU and Florida State have been discussing a neutral site game since July of 2015. The two schools were scheduled to play a home-and-home series back in 2012 & 2013, which was then canceled when WVU left the Big East Conference for the Big 12 Conference.

The Mountaineers have met the Seminoles three times in past competition – the 1982 Gator Bowl, the 2005 Gator Bowl, and the 2010 Gator Bowl – all of which were won by Florida State.

Casazza added that ticket allotment and payout for the 2020 matchup have yet to be settled.
