The Mountaineers have put together a very impressive recruiting class but in recent weeks things have gone quiet. WVU was in the running for talented linebacker Kaezon Pugh until he committed to Pitt last night, a big loss for this class. So where does WVU turn to now with the loss of Pugh?
WVU has been in the running from the start and looks to be the favorite for Brendan Ferns but now getting Ferns becomes a must for a team that will be attempting to fill many voids next season. WVU has been able to secure 4 linebacker commits in this class but Ferns is the type of player the Mountaineer program has been waiting on. He is rated a 4 star linebacker and a top ten player at the position but most importantly could be an immediate starter for the Mountaineers if they are able to land him. With all three current starters leaving at the end of the season and WVU having two replacements ready to step in, that will presumably leave one open spot and Ferns could be slated for that spot.
If WVU is able to land Ferns I fully expect them to be done at the position and fans would have to feel very comfortable over the next 4 years with the talent in this class. Mountaineer fans is very antsy as they have been waiting for Ferns to make a decision but it appears that WVU will be putting on a full press to get Ferns to commit to WVU.
Below is a list of WVU’s verbal commitments for the 2016 class
